Mounting a four-tusked elephant adorned with tusks,
resembling the peak of Mount Mandara, with pole-like tusks and exuding rut, // 2
situated upon the shoulder of that elephant, that foremost of the Asuras shone there,
like the thousand-rayed [sun] blazing forth atop the eastern mountain. // 3
With javelins and arrows possessing the brilliance of the sun's rays,
he felled the pramathas by hundreds and then by thousands. // 4
Just as the son of Vinatā [scatters] serpents, or a lion [scatters] bulls,
so did the heroic Virocana put the pramathas to flight. // 5
Departing or arriving, not yet reached or already reached, or standing far away—
whichever pramatha the Asura caught sight of, that one he tore apart. // 6
Just as deer [flee] seeing a lion, and serpents [flee seeing] Garuḍa,
so seeing Virocana, the pramathas fled in terror. // 7
