Marked with the mire of fat, marrow, and bones, and strewn with the foulness of hair,
the battleground became dreadful, resembling a cremation ground.
Horses, elephants, and chariots of the dānavas, crushed by the gaṇa-chiefs,
were seen scattered here and there upon the earth.
"You must be tested today in battle, O enemy of the king of the gods, [among] the non-gods!"
