"Monkey-faced one, why do you seek to frighten me with words?
I am the grandson of Hiraṇyakaśipu, no ordinary dānava!
Neither from Yama with his staff, nor from Varuṇa with his noose, nor from Indra with his thunderbolt, nor from the Lord of Wealth with his mace
do I feel fear on the battlefield; nor has fear ever fled [from battle] among the daityas!
Today, struck down by my arrows, let your repulsive, ugly face,
with its yellow, rolling eyes, fall to the ground like a fully ripe palm fruit from a palm tree!"
Having spoken thus, that cloud of a dānava king, roaring loudly like a lion,
covered Nandīśvara with a shower of arrows, as a cloud covers the king of mountains.
As birds enter a tree with ripe fruit, or as fierce snakes enter a high anthill,
so did the blazing-headed arrows shot by the dānava king pierce Nandīśvara.
