Falling from the sky like a female serpent, that weapon-maiden with a blazing face, / struck by an arrow of the lord of the Vaiśyas, fell, just as the supreme power [fails] in a man who has lost hope. / While that wondrous sacrificial battle of the Pramathas and Asuras was proceeding thus, / the son of Śilāda [Nandi], seeing the action of the descendant of Bhṛgu, became indignant and approached Maheśa. / Saying, "Victory!", Nandī, radiant like gold, spoke to the fierce source of victory: / "O God, the deed in battle done by the lords of the Gaṇas, which is difficult even for the gods along with Indra to achieve, / has today been rendered futile by the descendant of Bhṛgu through the revival of the Danava lords. / Indeed, these leaders of the Dānava hosts have returned today from the abode of Yama.
