niṣprabhorkobhavattatra tasya bhāsā patatriṇaḥ .
kārtasvananinādena22 patanti vihagāḥ23 kṣitau ..21 . .
sopi bhāsāyuto vāṇaḥ saṃvartaka ivānalaḥ .
viṭpateḥ kaṃkaṇe24 magno niraye duṣkṛtī yathā . .22 ..

The sun became lusterless there by the radiance of that winged shaft; / at Kārtasvana's roar birds fell down to the earth.
That blazing arrow, like the fire of cosmic dissolution, / sank into Viṭpati's armor like an evil-doer into hell.
