In Kumbhīpāka, in Raurava, and indeed in Mahāraurava,
and in other such [hells], surrounded by their misdeeds,
punished on the order of Mṛtyu by rākṣasas of cruel deeds,
thus surrounded by terrifying evils and tormented by rākṣasas—
a good son rescues the ancestors, O goddess, not another who is bent on sin.
Nor indeed are all sons of a man good sons;
only one alone is here who rescues the ancestors from fear.
Among them, those who are of wicked conduct do not count as sons,
just as a vicious bull, or a eunuch [counts not as] king.
Suffering is also incurred there, and suffering is known as hell;
because he rescues the ancestors from it, a son is therefore called *putra*.
