Sanatkumāra said:
Yoga and Sāṃkhya are everywhere declared to be twofold knowledge. / There, some are devoted to Sāṃkhya, while others have resorted to the path of Yoga.
The unmanifest and Prakṛti, and likewise the ego-sense: / these are indeed eight material principles, together with the five subtle elements.
Five are called the sense faculties of cognition, and five the sense faculties of action; / the mind and the five gross elements are remembered as the sixteen modifications.
And Puruṣa is the twenty-fifth, free from all undertakings, / eternal, omnipresent, subtle, conscious, devoid of the three guṇas,
pure, stainless, the experiencer, a non-doer, standing like a witness. / Knowing him, they do not enter again into this cage of worldly existence.
These twenty-five principles have been declared by the Sāṃkhya yogins, / knowing which indeed one is freed from rebirth.
