Sanatkumāra said:
How a living creature is born, how it arrives at detachment, / and how it awakens—that, Vyāsa, I tell you. // 1
Space, wind, fire, earth, and likewise water: / from the aggregation of these in one place, that which is called the body is born. // 2
All bodily humours consist of soma, and food is fourfold. / For embodied beings, the production of bodily humour comes from consuming food. // 3
From bodily humour arises blood; from blood, flesh is stated [to arise]. / Fat arises from flesh; from that the bones are formed. // 4
Marrow is to be known as originating from bone; thence arises semen. / From the union of blood and semen, an embryo is formed in a woman. // 5
From the proper timing of the season, and also through the influence of destiny and karma, / at the end of intercourse between a woman and a man, the two having become one, // 6
