iti skandapurāṇe pāśupatayogavarṇane dhyānavidhau saptamaḥ aśītyuttaraśatatamodhyāyaḥ
Arising, destruction, the performance of rites, / the instrumental cause, origin, and womb—these are, in brief, her states.
Oṃkāra was born from Īśvara, and it is established in him; / from Oṃkāra everything was born, the universe up to the realm of Brahmā.
Therefore, O fortunate one, yogins such as Kapila / worship Oṃkāra as the supreme, unconditioned Brahman.
He alone is the all-pervading Self, and he alone is the cause. / Thus, knowing Viṣṇu and the Grandfather, who have become Prakṛti and originate from Oṃkāra,
as the objects of enjoyment for the Lord and consisting of the guṇas, / abandoning their creations known as the Vedas and sacrifices which bind through ritual duty,
which are great delusions grounded in darkness (tamas), connected with attachment to sense-objects, / preceded by clarity (sattva), centered in passion (rajas), and ever accompanied by pleasure and pain,
wandering in worldly existence, deluded, and endowed with all that is impermanent— / the wise man, devoted to the yoga of meditation, should yearn for Īśvara.
From him Prakṛti arose, and into him alone she dissolves. / He by whom that Īśvara is known, established in the Self through yoga— / Prakṛti does not bind him, and he is liberated from the ocean of worldly existence.
Thus ends the one hundred and eighty-seventh chapter on the rule of meditation in the description of Pāśupata yoga in the Skandapurāṇa.
