niṣedhayantītyumeti mātṛsnehena duḥkhitā .
sā tathoktā tadā mātrā devī duścaracāriṇī .
tenaiva nāmnā lokeṣu vikhyātā surapūjitā . .29..

Forbidding her, saying: "O mā" (Oh, do not!), afflicted by motherly affection. / Addressed thus by her mother at that time, the goddess, practising severe [austerities], / became celebrated in the worlds and worshipped by the gods by that very name [Umā].29
