The other four cakravākas taking birth in that very place as the sons of a wandering ascetic; Brahmadatta enjoying royal pleasures for a long time in Kāmpilya together with Pāñcāla and Brahmadhanvan; thereafter, upon hearing two cryptic verses from the four sons of the wandering ascetic who were masters of yoga, Brahmadatta, having regained memory [of his past lives], goes to the forest and casts off his body through yoga; Pāñcāla attains the status of a yakṣa through austerity; Brahmadhanvan attains the power of assuming forms at will through propitiation of the God and Goddess; the episode of Hāla, the episode of Bhalandana; Brahmadhanvan, overcome by passion, having frightened a seer in the form of a tiger and seeking to violate the seer's wife out of lust, obtains birth as a tiger on account of her curse—thus the conclusion of the past history of Somanandin. In the fifty-eighth chapter: Pārvatī's bathing in a lake after obtaining the boon from Brahmā in order to shed her dark complexion; the emergence of Kauśikī from the bodily sheath of Pārvatī who had bathed in the lake; Kauśikī's dwelling on the peak of the Vindhya under the name Durgā by command of the Goddess.
