suśarmovāca
ataḥ paraṃ pravakṣyāmi śālmalīnarakaṃ punaḥ .
yātyante1 tatra puruṣāḥ subhṛśaṃ2 pāpakarmiṇaḥ . .1 . .
śālmalīnāṃ sahasrāṇi bahūni pravareśvara .
uccāssarvāśca tā ghorā bahuyojanavistṛtāḥ ..2 ..

Suśarman said:
Next I shall describe the Śālmalī hell again,
where men who are evil-doers are excessively tortured.
There are many thousands of silk-cotton trees, O best of lords,
all of them tall, dreadful, and extending over many yojanas.
