yātyante1 duḥkhaśokārtā mahānirayagāminaḥ .
ru iti procyate śabdastatrāsau śrūyate yataḥ ..2. .
punaḥ punarvā bhīmo hi2 rauravastena kathyate3 .
pūrṇastu sarvaḥ4 kārīṣyāj jjvalate sotidāruṇaḥ5 ..3 ..

Those bound for the great hell are tormented, afflicted by pain and grief. / Because the sound 'ru' is heard there / again and again, terrible indeed, it is therefore called Raurava. / Filled with dried cow dung, it burns, exceedingly dreadful.
