nadīṃ yaścāvarudhnīyāt kūpānyaśca prapūrayet .
yaśca parṇatvacāmarthe22 vṛkṣaṃ chindyānnarādhamaḥ .
vināśayedvā taṃ vṛkṣaṃ sa ca taṃ pratipadyate .. 17. .
yaśca chāyāsamāsannān23 jantūn vai saṃprabādhate .

and the lowest of men who dams a river, fills up wells, / or cuts down a tree for its leaves or bark, / or destroys that tree—he falls into that [hell]. (17) / And he who severely harasses creatures that have settled in the shade, (18a-b)
