paritrāṇaṃ dvijātīnāmanyeṣāṃ caiva duḥkhinām .
nityaṃ prakurvate ye ca tepi tān38 na vrajanti hi ..8.52.20 . .
akrodhanāśca ye nityaṃ devabrāhmaṇapūjakāḥ .
nityaṃ dānaratāścaiva39 na te gacchantyadhogatim ..21 ..

And those who constantly protect the twice-born and other afflicted beings / do not go to those [hells]. (20) / And those who are never prone to anger, who worship the gods and brahmins, / and are ever devoted to giving, do not go to a lower destination. (21)
