Varuṇa pierced Bāṇa with a hundred arrows;
and the majestic Bāṇa, drawing five hundred bows
simultaneously in anger, shot as many arrows.
Varuṇa, swift of hand, as they were rushing toward him,
cut each one into five parts, and pierced Bāṇa with five [arrows].
Then, laughing, the mighty Varuṇa with sharp arrows
severed all his bows; that was wonderful indeed.
Then, his bows cut, the daitya hurled a club at him;
and seeing it cut down, the mighty one again discharged clubs behind it.
Fixated upon that one, he did not look out for the other clubs.
