Blazing like a great meteor, dazzling like lightning from a cloud, / it fell upon Rāhu's head like a thunderbolt upon a mountain. / But he was not afflicted by that blow; / laughing loudly, the mighty Rāhu rushed forward with great speed, / enraged against Ahirbudhnya, as the king of birds [rushes] against serpents. / Seeing him rushing on, the lord, the foremost of gods, / stepped out of his path and went by another way, like a snake. / And the heroic Śataketu, in a chariot roaring like a cloud, / rushed at him in battle, enraged, saying, "Halt, halt!" / As he was charging, Kāpālī pierced his heart with heron-feathered arrows, / like a thunderbolt hurled at a lofty mountain peak. / His heart pierced by that Rudra, the foremost among planets / fell senseless upon his chariot, like a raised banner of Śakra. / Then a cry of "Alas, alas!" was raised by the Daityas, and cries of "Seize him, seize him!"
