uvāca svātmajaṃ vyāsam ṛṣibhir yac cikīrṣitam /
necchanti dakṣiṇe kūle vratabhaṅgabhayāt suta //
spoke to his own son Vyāsa concerning what the sages intended to do:
"They do not wish to [dine] on the southern bank, O son, for fear of breaking their vow,

yet they are very eager to eat, especially because of your devotion."
