nānnadānasamaṃ dānaṃ triṣu lokeṣu viśrutam /

annād bhavanti bhūtāni mriyante tad abhāvataḥ //
No gift equal to the gifting of food is renowned in the three worlds; / no gift equal to the gifting of food is renowned in the three worlds; / from food all beings come to be, and from its absence they die.
