yathānādi pravṛtto 'yaṃ ghoraḥ saṃsārasāgaraḥ /
śivo 'pi hi tathānādiḥ saṃsārān mocakaḥ smṛtaḥ //

Just as this dreadful ocean of the cycle of rebirth has proceeded without a beginning, / so Śiva too is traditionally known to be beginningless, the liberator from the cycle of rebirth.
