mārkaṇḍeya uvāca:
ahaṃ te kathayiṣyāmi vicitraṃ yat purātanam /
vṛttaṃ samabhavat tatra ṛṣīṇāṃ bhāvitātmanām //

Mārkaᅇጁeya said: / I will narrate to you what ancient, wondrous / deed took place there among the self-realized ṛṣis.
