nīlībhūtaṃ yathāvastraṃ sitatvaṃ naiva gacchati /
tathā kṛṣṇatriśūlasya nirmalatvaṃ na jāyate //

Just as a cloth that has turned indigo blue never attains whiteness, / so purity does not arise for the blackened trident.
