rudra uvāca:
śṛṇuṣvaikamanā bhūtvā yathā gaṅgāvatāritā /
purā devī mahābhāga brahmādyaiḥ sakalaiḥ suraiḥ //

Rudra said: / "Listen with a single-minded focus to how the goddess Gaṅgā was brought down / of old, O highly fortunate one, by all the gods headed by Brahmā.
