mārkaṇḍeya uvāca:
dṛṣṭās te puruṣā nānyā narmadātaṭam āśritāḥ /
snānadevārccanairyuktāḥ pañcaiva tu mahābalāḥ //
Mārkaṇḍeya said: / Those men, none other, were seen taking refuge on the bank of the Narmadā, / engaged in bathing and the worship of the gods, five of great power.

te dṛṣṭā brāhmaṇaiḥ sarvair vedavedāṅgapāragaiḥ /
They were seen by all the brahmins who had crossed to the far shore of the Vedas and Vedāṅgas.
