Impartial towards gods and animals, free from the sense of "mine" in all things, / released from all undertakings, free from merit and sin,
free from duality, in a secluded place, he should practice yoga directed towards Īśvara. / Having abandoned egoism along with rules, having ascertained the Sāṃkhya conclusion,
he should constantly practice in the supreme yoga of Maheśvara. / Eight are the eternal material principles, and sixteen are the modifications;
and the twenty-fifth is Puruṣa, the subject of the Sāṃkhya doctrine. / This indeed is the supreme secret in the ascertainment of the reality of the Sāṃkhyas:
having known the difference between Prakṛti and Puruṣa, one is liberated.
Thus ends the hundred and seventy-fourth chapter, the first on the method of meditation, entitled 'The Description of Pāśupata Yoga', in the Skandapurāṇa.
