āpo nārā iti proktā āpo vai narasūnavaḥ
ayanaṃ tasya tāḥ proktāstena nārāyaṇaḥ smṛtaḥ
“Waters are called nārāḥ, for waters are indeed the sons of Nara; / they were his original abode, and therefore he is known as Nārāyaṇa.”
