vyāsa uvāca |
saṃyuge ca sati tatra bhūpayorāhavāya samupāttaśastrayoḥ |
krodhalobhavaśayoḥ samaṃ tataḥ sambabhūva tumulastu vimardaḥ ||

Vyâsa said:-- O king! When the war was declared, the two kings, excited by greed and anger, took up arms; and a dreadful encounter ensued.
