3.30.25

indreṇa vṛtranāśāya kṛtaṃ vratamanuttamam |
tripurasya vināśāya śivenāpi purā kṛtam ||

O high minded one! This vow was practised before by Indra for the destruction of Vritra, by S’iva for killing the demon Tripurâ, by Nârâyana for the killing of the demons Madhu and Kaitava; so you should also firmly resolve to perform duly this vow with your whole heart.”
