adūṣyatvañca jānakyā na viveda janārdanaḥ |
divyañca kārayāmāsa jvalite'gnau praveśanam ||
The Janârdan Râmchandra was not aware of the innocence of Sîtâ; and therefore He made her take an oath about the purity of Her character and even made Her undergo an ordeal of fire.
