purāṇeṣu ca sarveṣu setihāseṣu sarvataḥ |
nānābhedamatādīni śrutvā bhrāntā munīśvarāḥ ||
Yet having heard the diverse viewpoints and doctrines everywhere
in all the purāṇas and along with the Itihāsas, the lords of sages became bewildered.
