tadeva grahaṇaṃ dakṣa kathyate śāstravādibhiḥ |
akhilaṃ tamasā vyāptaṃ maṇḍalaṃ ravisomayoḥ ||
That alone is called an eclipse by exponents of the scriptures, O Dakṣa, / when the entire disc of the sun and the moon is pervaded by darkness.
