yad yad duḥkhakaraṃ tattadvighnarūpaṃ na saṃśayaḥ |
narakādi mahāghoraṃ vikarmaphaladaṃ matam ||
Whatever causes suffering is indeed of the nature of obstacles, without doubt;
hell and the rest are considered most terrible, yielding the fruits of improper deeds.
