putre rājyaṃ samarpyā'sau vanaṃ yāto mahāyaśāḥ |
tatra dehaṃ krameṇaiva tapasā śoṣayan sthitaḥ ||
Having entrusted the kingdom to his son, that highly renowned one went to the forest;
There he remained, gradually emaciating his body through austerities.
