athavā kṣīṇacandrāyāmamāyāṃ jñāyate budhaiḥ |
māsaścāndramaso vipra dvividhaḥ parikīrtitaḥ ||
Or on the new-moon day, when the moon is waned, it is understood by the wise. / The lunar month, O brahmin, is proclaimed to be of two kinds.
