caturthāṃśāyuṣi sthātā saṃnyāsaṃ sa samācaret |
tadā striyā'pi tasyaivāśāṃ tyaktvā jñāpito bhavet ||
Remaining [firm] in the fourth portion of his lifespan, he should undertake renunciation (saṃnyāsa). / Then he should also be permitted [to do so] by his wife, having abandoned hope in him.
