caturṇāṃ puruṣārthānāṃ sādhanaṃ sarvasammatam |
tena proktā caturthī sā varadā saṅkaṭā matā ||
It is the means for [attaining] the four aims of human life, approved by all;
therefore that Caturthī is declared to be boon-bestowing and remover of distress.
