varaṃ varaya viprendra varado 'haṃ tavāgrataḥ
nātaptatapasā brahman draṣṭuṃ sādhyo 'ham añjasā //

Choose a boon, O foremost of vipras; I stand before you to grant a boon.
I cannot be seen easily, O brāhmaṇa, by one who has not performed ascetic penance.
