By his father's command, accompanied by his brother and wife, he reached the Daṇḍaka forest and practiced ascetic penance. / In the forest, his wife abducted by Rāvaṇa, grieving along with his brother, supported by Sugrīva, the leader of many millions of monkeys, having constructed a bridge over the ocean and gone with them to Laṅkā, having slain Rāvaṇa, the thorn of the gods, along with his kinsmen, having taken Sītā and returned again to Ayodhyā, consecrated [as king] by Bharata, he sent Vibhīṣaṇa away having given him the kingdom of Laṅkā or the aerial chariot. / But that Supreme Lord, situated in the aerial chariot, being borne by Vibhīṣaṇa, not wishing to dwell even in Laṅkā, the city of rākṣasas, established a sacred forest there.
