From Aṃśumat [was born] Bhagīratha, / by whom through great ascetic penance the Gaṅgā, destroying all sins and bestowing the fourfold aims of human life, was formerly brought down to earth from heaven; / and his ancestors known as the Sāgaras, who had become ashes and bone having been consumed by the great ṛṣi Kapila, were caused to ascend to heaven when touched by the water of the Gaṅgā. / From Bhagīratha [was born] Saudāsa; from Saudāsa, Satrasava. / From Satrasava [was born] Anaraṇya; from Anaraṇya, Dīrghabāhu.
