mārkaṇḍeya uvāca:
avatārān ahaṃ vakṣye devadevasya cakriṇaḥ
tān śṛṇuṣva mahīpāla pavitrān pāpanāśanān //
Mārkaṇḍeya said: / I shall declare the incarnations of the God of gods who bears the discus; / hear them, O protector of the earth—pure and destroying sins:
