cīravāsā jaṭadhārī tridaṇḍī muṇḍa eva vā
bhūṣito vā dvijaśreṣṭha na liṅgaṃ dharmakāraṇam //
Whether wearing rags of bark, bearing matted locks, holding a triple staff, or shaven-headed, / or adorned [with ornaments], O best of the twice-born, the external sign is not the cause of dharma.
