vyāsa uvāca:
ity evaṃ dhyāyatas tasya mārkaṇḍeyasya dhīmataḥ
manas tatraiva saṃlagnaṃ devadeve jagatpatau //

Vyāsa said: / As the wise Mārkaṇḍeya was meditating in this way, / his mind was completely fixed upon that very God of Gods, the Lord of the Universe.
