śrutiḥ smṛtiśca viprāṇāṃ cakṣuṣī parikīrtite /
kāṇastatraikayā hīno dvābhyāmandhaḥ prakīrtitaḥ //

Revelation and tradition are declared to be the two eyes of brāhmans;
one devoid of one of them is one-eyed; devoid of both, he is proclaimed blind.
