śrīmārkaṇḍeya uvāca:
janmāntarairanekaistu mānuṣyamupalabhyate /
bhaktirutpadyate cātra kathaṃcidapi śaṅkare //
The venerable Mārkaṇḍeya said: / Human birth is obtained through many other lives, / and here, somehow, devotion to Śaṅkara arises.
