tataste ṛṣayaḥ sarve kṣuttṛṣārtāḥ sahasraśaḥ /
yugasvabhāvamāviṣṭā hīnasattvā abhavannṛpa //
Then all those thousands of ṛṣis, afflicted with hunger and thirst,
overcome by the inherent nature of the yuga, became devoid of vitality, O king.
