śrīmārkaṇḍeya uvāca:
tatasteṣu prayāteṣu narmadātīravāsiṣu /
babhūva raudrasaṃhāraḥ sarvabhūtakṣayaṃkaraḥ //

Śrī Mārkaṇḍeya said: / Then, when those dwellers on the banks of the Narmadā had departed, / there occurred the terrible dissolution causing the destruction of all beings.
