vimucya saśaraṃ cāpaṃ prārebhe tapa uttamam /
divyaṃ varṣasahasraṃ tu vyādhenācaritaṃ tapaḥ //
put down his bow with the arrow and undertook supreme asceticism.
Asceticism was practiced by the hunter for a celestial thousand years.
