loko niraṅkuśaḥ sarvo maryādālaṅghane rataḥ /
maryādā sthāpitā tena śāstraṃ vīkṣya maharṣibhiḥ //
The whole world would be unrestrained, delighting in transgressing the boundary; / therefore, having examined the scriptures, the boundary was established by the great ṛṣis:
