purā kṛtayugasyādau toṣituṃ girijāpatim /
tapaścacāra vipulaṃ viṣṇurvarṣasahasrakam /
vāyubhakṣo nirāhāraḥ śuklatīrthe vyavasthitaḥ //
Long ago, at the beginning of the Kṛta age, Viṣṇu practiced extensive asceticism / for a thousand years to please the husband of the mountain's daughter, / feeding on wind, fasting, settled at Śuklatīrtha.
