kārttikasya tu māsasya kṛṣṇapakṣe caturdaśīm /
ghṛtena snāpayed devamupoṣya prayato naraḥ //
On the fourteenth day of the dark fortnight of the month of Kārttika, / having fasted, a restrained man should bathe the God with ghee.
